Ⅰ. Overview
Vinyl chloride, also known as vinyl chloride, with the structural formula of H2C=CHCl. It is colorless, anesthetic, easily liquefied gas at room temperature. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in alcohol and ether. It forms the explosive mixture with air, with an explosion limit of 3.6 to 26.4% (volume).

Ⅱ. Production Method
1) Calcium carbide method
The overall process of producing vinyl chloride is to first use coke and calcium oxide to produce calcium carbide, and then add water to calcium carbide to prepare acetylene. Acetylene then reacts with hydrogen chloride in the gas phase to produce vinyl chloride. Since the catalyst is easily deactivated at high temperatures, the temperature during the reaction is generally controlled at 100-180℃.

2) Balanced oxychlorination method
In the balanced oxychlorination process, ethylene is divided into two streams, one of which is directly chlorinated to produce ethylene dichloride, and the other is mixed with air and hydrogen chloride to produce ethylene dichloride. Ethylene dichloride is then cracked to produce vinyl chloride. The hydrogen chloride produced by the cracking reaction is sent back to the oxychlorination section. The ethylene oxychlorination reaction generally uses copper as catalyst, and the reaction temperature is about 240℃. If ethylene chlorination and oxychlorination are combined, it can actually be considered that ethylene produces ethylene dichloride and water under the action of chlorine and oxygen.

Ⅲ. Usage
Vinyl chloride is an important organic compound with a wide range of uses, mainly including: Raw materials of plastic industry: vinyl chloride is an important raw material for the plastic industry, mainly used to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin. PVC is the world’s largest general-purpose plastic. Polymerization monomer: Vinyl chloride can be copolymerized with monomers such as vinyl acetate, butadiene, acrylonitrile, acrylate, and vinylidene chloride to produce a variety of copolymers, such as vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer (EVA), vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer (PVDC), etc. Refrigerant: Vinyl chloride has a low boiling point, so it can be used as the refrigerant to play a cooling role in refrigeration systems. Extraction agent: Vinyl chloride can also be used as an extraction agent for dyes and fragrances to help extract and separate the desired compounds.
In addition, vinyl chloride can also be used as a raw material for other organic syntheses.
